Meditation for clear skin – How it works?

Meditation and mindfulness have witnessed a huge fandom in the past few decades.

It’s because of an emerging field of research called psychodermatology. It studies the interaction between mind and skin. Further, reveals the effects of emotions on the skin. This field is dedicated to bridging the gap between our emotional state with our overall health.

Thus, establishing the importance of meditation and mindfulness for a healthy body and skin.

1. Meditation reduces negative emotions

Reduced stress, fear, worry and anxiety are some of the proven benefits of meditation. And these mental hazards are at the root of many skin issues. Skin issues worsen with stress!

Research proved that meditation techniques have immense benefits for people suffering from skin condition. This simple relaxation technique can be very helpful in treating psoriasis, acne, eczema and vitiligo.

A clinical study proved the efficacy of meditation on treating skin problems. Listening to meditation tapes while receiving treatments is therapeutic. Patients suffering from psoriasis healed four times faster when they practiced meditation

2. Meditation slows down the aging process.

Relaxed meditation for even a few minutes can fire up your energies. The flow of positive charges through your mind promotes a feeling of calmness and relaxation. This helps in cell reparation and cell-regeneration which slows down the ageing process.

Also, the practice of deep breathing during meditation supplies your body with abundant oxygen. This increased oxygen supply helps rejuvenating your skin. It improves your complexion, reduces wrinkles and fine lines. Meditation can slow-down the entire process of ageing.

3. Meditation improves mood

As I said in the beginning, your skin mirrors your mind. When you are in a good mood, your skin glows automatically. It is research-proven that people who practice regular meditation experiences more happiness, inner peace and wellness.

Meditation also boosts the brain’s secretion of serotonin, which is a happy hormone. Thus, it is one simple tool for happiness that is accessible to anyone. Research also says that people who are in a happy state of mind tend to take better care of themselves.

4. Meditation leads to healthier choices.

Just like physical exercise influences your choice of food, meditation can influence your lifestyle. Practicing meditation makes you more aware of your breath, body and surroundings. This leads to better health choices including your diet, exercise and skincare regime.

People who meditate find it easy to accept their body. Thus, they are less inclined to chemical products that cause more harm than good. Also, their regime for skin care are more grounded, organic and natural.

5. Meditation makes you more patient

But what does patience have anything to do with your skin?

It has a deep link!

Many people who suffer from skin issues are very impatient with the treatments. And for any natural treatment to work, it will take time. Be it blemishes, dark spots, acne or wrinkles, you have to be patient to witness the difference.

But I have seen people switching doctors and jumping clinics after a few days of treatment. They will keep a few medicines from one prescription and take a few from another and make their own therapeutic regimen. This is not only ineffective but also dangerous.

People who are more patient are more willing to give their skin the time to heal. Even the simplest remedies work great on them.

Now that we have established the benefits of meditation for your skin, let’s take a look at what is meditation and how you can do it at home.
