What Are the Secrets to a Quarrel-Free Marriage? Gain Insights from Kalyani’s 42-Year Happy Relationship

In a world where arguments and fights between couples are often deemed the norm, there are those who choose to live differently. Kalyani, a woman who visited a clinic a few moons ago, is one such person who has found a unique way to keep the peace in her marriage.

Kalyani, a frequent patient of mine, was in our Ayurvedism store when she witnessed a couple having a heated argument. While the other bystanders chose to ignore the situation, Kalyani was taken aback and asked me why the couple was fighting. I then asked Kalyani if she had ever fought with her own husband. To my surprise, Kalyani confidently responded, “Never.” She went on to explain that she and her husband had been married for 42 years without ever having a single quarrel.

When I raised my eyebrows, Kalyani shared the story of her marriage. She and her husband had faced their fair share of hurdles over the years, including an inter-caste marriage and several business failures that led them to bankruptcy. Her husband was also diagnosed with depression, which took a toll on their relationship. Kalyani established her own embroidery business and hired ten girls. As her business grew, she expanded her team to 50 and worked diligently to establish contacts with fashion designers. Through hard work and dedication, Kalyani managed to clear all of her loans within five years.

Despite these challenges, Kalyani never let the bitterness seep into their relationship. She worked hard to support her family and never judged her husband for his decisions. She empathized with his pain and always kept calm, never responding to his harsh words with the same energy.

Kalyani’s love and care overshadowed her husband’s insecurities and he eventually came to terms with the way life had unfolded for them. Today, he is a supportive partner who lends a helping hand in all household chores.

As a postgraduate in psychology, Kalyani believes that most couples fight because they fail to resolve their issues. She emphasizes that it’s possible for couples to coexist without fighting, talk without arguing, and live happily without bitterness.

For Kalyani, the key to a quarrel-free marriage is simple: listen, respond, and talk.
She believes that it takes effort to understand the other person, stand up for them, and support them through tough times. Fights and bitter arguments not only affect the dynamics of the relationship but also cast a shadow on the children.

Kalyani’s story is a testament to the fact that it’s possible for couples to live together without ever quarreling. Her approach to her marriage is a reminder that a little effort and understanding can go a long way in keeping the peace in our relationships.
