Deepak is a 27-year-old second-generation entrepreneur. He suffered from IBS for about 7 years. A strenuous routine, haphazard diet, and constant stress wreaked havoc on the gut.
What started with a little discomfort and bloating transpired into IBS. The boating and gas were followed by constipation and diarrhea. And it went from bad to worse.
The pain was bad. But it was the constant urge to use the toilet that was bigger trouble. In addition to the discomfort, it’s the embarrassment that scarred him.
IBS became a cause of mental distress.
He got branded as a frequent toilet user. Deepak often found himself searching for washrooms at awkward times. He avoided meeting his friends and cancelled the get-togethers.
The compulsive urge cast a shadow on his personal relationships.

Deepak reported his symptoms as – urgent diarrhea, loose stools, horrible constipation, and stomach pain. He also said that he suffered from constant bloating since the time he was just 20 years old.
During the consultation, Deepak opened up without any restraints. He spoke the truth about his eating and drinking habits. Deepak binged on a lot of junk and gulped down bottles of alcohol.
He also spoke about his love for gadgets. The games kept him awake all night and drew him to the fridge full of unhealthy snacks. His diet and lifestyle were at the root of his IBS.

Treatment at Ayurvedism
Deepak was treated for about three months. I taught him breathing techniques and counseled on appropriate diet and lifestyle habits.
The Dietary Recommendations were:
- Firstly, always go for a balanced fiber intake. Try different fibrous foods and observe the body’s response. It is the best way to know which foods suit your body type.
- Secondly, track the foods that irritate your IBS. Strike these foods off your list. People with gas troubles should avoid beans, cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli.
- Thirdly, people who are lactose intolerant should try alternate foods. Avoid fatty foods and ensure a proper mix of protein, calcium, and vitamin B in the diet.
- In addition to that, drink enough water. Stay away from alcohol and caffeine. Carbonated drinks are also a big no-no. Such drinks irritate the stomach and produce gas.
- Above all, exercise regularly and consistently. Increase the time of your workout bit by bit.
Healthy diet, exercise and proper lifestyle is the best remedy for many disorders. These are the first line of treatment for IBS. Any medicines prescribed for IBS should be taken only after adopting these lifestyle alterations.
