Cultivating Happiness: Guide to Celebrating Life’s Small Thrills

“We seek happiness all around but within!

What is life; if not just a book of memories… And no one ever remembers the big bills they paid or the branded stuff they bought. The diamond watch they owned or the gold rings they wore! In the diary of memories, only true moments of happiness are precisely preserved!

Understanding Happiness!

The frisky moments spent with friends. The priceless time with family. The dates. The jokes. The fights. The get-togethers. Me time. Little complements. And small achievements!!!

These are the little beads that build a life well-lived!!!

After a tedious day of team meetings, Maya, a 26-year-old IT engineer, found happiness in her mother’s call.

A hot meal served with love brought a smile to Kiran’s face.

The retired CEO forgot about his pain and ailment while playing with his granddaughter.

The young couple lost in love and found paradise on earth.

The mother shed tears of joy when Diwali brought her family together.

The father’s chest swelled with pride when he saw his little girl growing up into a big doctor!!!

These and many such instances often blow a breeze of realization.

Realization, that happiness is always around, you just need to have an eye for it!

There is always a reason to celebrate, a reason to cherish! Because life in itself is the biggest occasion!

For those who have ever delved deep to introspect life know that it’s always the small moments that create a big difference.

Realizing Happiness

It’s a sudden realization of freedom. A gush of courage and a gentle wind supporting the wings. That reroutes life on the path of passion. It’s the unplanned trips that create the best memories.

It’s the unspoken words that are often most remembered!

Celebrating Happiness

Life is nothing but a blend of blissful moments!!!

But how often do we actually celebrate these moments of treasure? Unfortunately, the real moments feel too less a reason for celebration!!

People postpone their family trips in pursuit of promotions. Miss out on the get-togethers for unnecessary commitments. Sacrifice leaves to impress the unimportant. And miss out on life trying hard to build one rather than live the one!!!

Little thrills Big Treasures!

Little thrills may be any act that stretches a smile.

A weekend getaway with parents could be more exciting than partying with strangers. A road trip with siblings might unveil unknown things.

Skyping a friend is more worthy than being a part of a boring corporate party.

Ever tried speaking to the hills or the sea? They may not answer, but they indeed are the best listeners! Nothing could be more soothing than this.

Arun cherishes his morning cup of coffee soaking the peace from his balcony.

For Prabhu, it’s the heart-touching music that gives him a good time.

Aparna unleashes her worries in the moments of laughter with her friend.

69-year-old Mahindra lives the best moments in his early morning run.

Going out for dinner. Splurging on the favorite items. Ticking off an adventure sport. Or anything that brings pleasure is worth celebrating. It is worth being grateful for!

Research Speaks!

Research says that the attitude of gratitude is the secret to a happy wealthy life.

Harvard research says, “Giving thanks can make you happier.” The article highlighted multiple studies, that positively associated gratitude with well-being.

A research article published in NCBI also concurred with it. It says that gratitude improves well-being. It also improves performance at work!

Another article in Greater Good highlighted the benefits of celebrating the little thrills of life.

It states that “people who consciously count their blessings tend to be happier and less depressed.” The attitude of cherishing small thrills is the best therapy for people troubled with mental health.

Cultivating the Habit of Happiness

  1. Keep a gratitude journal.
  2. Thank God while praying.
  3. Count your blessings.
  4. Meditate.
  5. Practice saying ‘thank you’!

An endless pursuit of Happiness

A regular dose of presentations, meetings, and conferences has made us immobile. Blocking the realizations of self-love and happiness. In fact, many are shackled by the chair. Even when not at the office, the harrowing thoughts of incomplete work and unmet deadlines dread them!

This is one of the biggest causes of anxiety. Leading to dissatisfaction, complexity, irritation, depression, and poor work results. Such people often complain of insomnia and report more health issues.

And it all can be cured just by celebrating the small thrills of life. Being happy and being grateful is the key!
