Education Equals Longevity: How Higher Education Can Lead to a Longer, Healthier Life

Do you think dropping out of school is a great idea?

After all, it sounds so cool!

So, many rich businessmen are college drop-outs. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg! The list is long.

But hold on that thought while I flip the coin.

Education not just makes you smart and wise. It may also help you live longer. Research says so and they have reasons to believe that.

The ugly truth of dropouts

The list of successful dropouts is just a handful. But the list of unsuccessful dropouts is uncountable!

Some drop out by choice while some succumb to their financial strains. But whatsoever be the reason, dropping out of college often damage a person’s life. They are more prone to smoking, alcohol and drug abuse.

Research speaks: Higher Education may lead to a longer life.

There is no point in big claims until research backs it up!

So, many recent studies from various universities reported that reading books of choice encourages empathy. Reading books also improve the rationality and opens up the mind to new ideas.

Another research from Harvard University agrees to the same. It says that people with over 12 years of education have better life expectancy than school dropouts.

Research Speaks: Teachers live longer than people in other professions

One more study highlights that teachers and college professors usually have a longer lifespan. Their high level of education coupled with less stressful job nature helps in leading a healthy lifestyle. Also, being a teacher keeps them constantly close to books.

Another reason why teachers live out their grey hair days is because of the young company they keep. They are constantly surrounded by young minds and positive vibe! This is another plus for the longevity of life span!

The logic of this link – Higher Education may lead to a longer life.

Higher education is deeply associated with healthy living!

Not that it magically adds years to your life. But it definitely encourages healthy habits which result in better living.

Be it your career, health, happiness or wisdom, education makes everything better!

In most cases, higher education is the key to better income. It boosts cognitive development and results in better social connects. Both of which are proven to improve your lifespan.

Some studies suggest that reading books could extend your lifespan by up to several years.

5 Ways How Higher Education may lead to a longer life

1. Higher education leads to healthy habits

Right education sows the seeds of healthy habits. Education blesses your mind with wisdom that helps you make a better decision.

Simple yet life-changing decisions. Like going for a walk or switching to healthy habits.

Being highly educated means being smart enough to make the right choice.

And choosing a better life over a bitter one! It’s not the rich man who lives fuller, but the wise man who lives the most!

2. It is the green card to Better healthcare

Longevity is directly related to access to good healthcare facilities. Today, most diseases are either curable or controllable.

But you need access to healthcare facility for that!

Being educated raises the chances of being well off!

A better job, better payout and probably better access to health care. Not many dropouts crack the code of becoming wealthy. But the graduates mostly get settled down sooner or later!

3. Higher education is the key to Social Networking

People meet their best buddies in college.

They make memories and forge the best bonds for life. These social support systems are very essential for better mental and physical health.

Friends are not only the gems that make your life brighter. But they also bring ample health benefits.

They are one of the best anti-depressants, stress-busters, anxiety control source. Plus, friends are great for the heart!

4. Education can make you wealthy

It’s one perk of being educated that you have a better chance of earning a living. This means the capacity to eat healthy and live healthy.

Also, being in a better position in life makes you happier. And research shows that happiness is connected to health

5. Education makes you more responsible

Education not only makes you sensitive to the outer world but it also awakens your world within.

It makes you more responsible about your health. You stay out from unwanted troubles.  It endows you the power to cut down unhealthy cravings. And you are eligible to make better choices!

Conclusion

Education is actually empowering. But only if we put the texts to use! Being a literate fool with Harvard’s degree won’t help in extending the years on earth. But actually, reading good books and implementing the wisdom to live can help in stretching your lifespan!

A good example to prove the point here would be the current situation of coronavirus crisis.

Every doctor, scientist, an expert is screaming just one thing for safety – ‘Stay at home’!

But not everyone with a degree is not able to understand the gravity of the situation. But still, the educated lot is doing better than the uneducated and unenlightened ones! So, math and logic are both saying that being educated is a better thing.
