Health Benefits of Saffron Milk

After the trending buzz of turmeric milk, it’s the wonders of saffron milk that’s garnering the spotlight. The golden spice, one of the costliest on earth, is painstakingly hand-harvested. And it owes the respect for the amazing Health benefits of Saffron Milk.

In Indian tradition, pregnant ladies are fed saffron milk as it is considered the secret recipe for a fair baby. I have often heard it from mothers and mother-in-laws’ of pregnant ladies, ‘Doctor please recommend her to drink Saffron milk for a fair good-looking baby.’

And often I would wonder why is fairness or beauty such an obsession in my country. Isn’t the health, growth, and development more important than the color of his skin? But I knew there was no point in raising this debate to the minds that were abhorrent to any idea that does not echo their beliefs.

So, rather than saying that ‘saffron milk is really good. It has many health benefits. This healthy drink is much more than a skin lightener’. I say, ‘Saffron milk is really good. In fact, I recommend one glass for each in the family.’

What’s in a glass of Saffron Milk?

Saffron milk is your plain milk topped with a few strands of the rare golden spice. Loaded with antioxidants, this amazing spice found its place on the plate back in the Vedic age.

Apart from being a truckload of nutrients, it is a simple recipe. All you need is just saffron and milk! Though some people add sugar to enhance the taste, I recommend, adding a pinch of turmeric and ditching the sugar. Of course, you can make your own Kesar Doodh or Saffron Milk recipe.

Add some almonds or walnuts or any other nut to the milk and have it to your taste. However, I recommend avoiding the urge to add sugar. Sugar is addictive and proven unhealthy when taken more than permitted. So, better avoid the white crystals and get your daily dose of sugar from the basket of fruits.

Why is this Ayurvedic Doctor recommending Saffron milk?

Over the years, Saffron milk has often popped in my prescription. Stress, depression, anxiety, an ache which are common complaints, often results in sleeplessness, and saffron milk is a soothing glass that lets the tired eyes rest.

I have also recommended it to women, not just pregnant women, but everyone from teenagers to elder women who complain of menstrual cramps and abdominal pain.

From the Vedic age to this modern age, we are still discovering the amazing benefits of saffron milk. From being a cure for insomnia to treatment for asthma, Saffron milk is no less than a healthy dose of medicine that takes care of your body and guards it against diseases and allergies.

Amazing Health Benefits of Saffron Milk

1. Saffron Milk in Cold

I recommend Saffron milk to everyone in the family because cold does not discriminate. From the young ones to the adults and the elders, everyone despises the visit of a cold. The warm nature of Saffron milk helps in preventing and relieving cold.

4. Saffron Milk for memory

One of the lesser-known benefits of saffron milk is its memory-boosting actions. A glass of saffron milk is good for the child and the aged alike. While it helps the child to acquire new knowledge, it helps the aged to retain their memory and protect it from degenerative diseases. It helps relieve stress and enhance memory functions among all ages.

5. Saffron Milk in aches and allergies

Saffron milk is extremely good for treating allergies and asthma because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps in getting relief from joint pains.

6. Saffron milk in pregnancy

Saffron milk is a boon during pregnancy. It helps in soothing uneasiness and relieving body pain. Its essential anti-oxidants help in improving digestion, regulating blood pressure and increasing blood flow. Above all, saffron milk brings a good night’s sleep during pregnancy, which many pregnant mothers struggle with!

Apart from these amazing benefits, Saffron milk is also good for the heart and the skin.

When to take? And how much to take?

A glass of Saffron milk (adding 3-4 threads of saffron) should be taken regularly before bed. The modern-day wear and tear requires a little repair at the end of the day. It takes away the stress and brings lingering sleep to your eyes.

It must be taken during the flu season to avoid fever and cold. One can also turn to a glass of saffron milk to curb indigestion. For growing kids, I recommend 2 glasses a day as their need for nutrition is much higher because of their constant hop and jump all around.

Health benefits of Saffron Milk: It’s a boon!

No matter what age you are, whether you are pregnant or not, male or female, drink that glass of saffron milk to get your health on peak and keep diseases at bay. It’s much better than the sleeping pill, the indigestion pill, or the painkillers. Isn’t it?
