Triphala Eyewash: For Optimal Eye Health

Ah, it feels like a wave of nostalgia has hit me! Just last night, while attending to an old patient, memories of my college days came rushing back. Back then, when I was a student in Belgaum, our college’s ophthalmology department held a magnetic allure for us. Oh, how we used to flock to the lab! Whether it was to cleanse our eyes with the soothing Triphala Eyewash or to diligently practice the Bates Method eye exercises. We were well aware that a doctor must have sharp eyes and steady hands! Our revered professor, the remarkable Dr. S.K. Patil, was a paragon of dedication, knowledge, patience, and kindness. He imparted to us the wisdom of these indigenous techniques and their incredible benefits.

What is Triphala Eyewash?

Triphala is a well-known Ayurvedic formulation. Made from Amla (Emblica Officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia Chebula), and Bibhitika (Terminalia bellerica). Triphala is very beneficial in digestion, anti-aging, and skincare. It is also an incredible constituent of eye care.

Triphala eyewash is very efficient in treating several eye disorders and improving vision. It is a simple and effective procedure. Very effective in preventing dry eyes, computer strains, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, and cataract.

How to prepare Triphala Eyewash?

To prepare a triphala eye wash decoction, you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of triphala powder
  • 1 cup of water

Instructions:

  1. Boil 1 cup of water in a saucepan.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of Triphala powder to the boiling water and stir well.
  3. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the mixture has reduced by half.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a clean bowl.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Then fill in eye-washing cups

Word of caution!

  • Do not reuse the water.
  • Avoid going out in the sun immediately after the process.
  • Do not stare at a screen immediately after the process.
  • Make sure all utensils used in the process are sterile.

5 Benefits of Triphala Eyewash

Triphala eyewash helps in relieving strain and improving eyesight.

  • It helps in reducing eye inflammation.
  • Protects the eyes against conjunctivitis.
  • Helps in reducing dryness, redness, and irritation of the eyes.
  • It is also used in the treatment of serious eye conditions like glaucoma and cataract

Why is Triphala Eyewash a must for your eyes?

In today’s time, most people spend a maximum of their time glued to the screen. Be it a software engineer coding on his computer or a teenager playing PubG in his mobile. The little toddler tuning to the rhymes. People are turning into cyber zombies, and digital addicts! Not to forget the increased dust and pollution that attack the fragile eyes. As such, it is very crucial to take proper care of the eyes.

Triphala eyewash is a simple and effective solution. Especially for people who spend prolonged hours interacting with a screen. It keeps their vision strong and helps them relieve the strains.

Triphala Eye Wash: Traditional Remedy Shows Promise in Eye Care Research

Research on the use of Triphala kashaya for eye care is limited, but some studies suggest that it may have potential benefits for eye health.

In one study, Triphala kashaya was found to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may help protect the eyes from oxidative stress and reduce the risk of eye diseases.

Another study showed that Triphala kashaya improved tear secretion and reduced symptoms of dry eye syndrome, which is a common eye condition that can cause discomfort and vision problems.

Triphala Eye Wash in Myopia

Research on the use of Triphala eye wash for myopia (nearsightedness) is limited. However, some studies have shown that Triphala has potential benefits for eye health and may help reduce the progression of myopia in children.

One study found that children who consumed a Triphala-based supplement showed a slower progression of myopia compared to children who did not receive the supplement.

Another study showed that Triphala has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which may help protect the eyes from oxidative stress and slow down the progression of myopia.

However, it is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the effects of Triphala on myopia, and it should not be used as a substitute for conventional medical treatment for myopia.

Triphala Eye Wash in Allergic Conjunctivitis

Allergic conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, which is the clear membrane covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. This condition is often caused by allergies and can cause redness, itching, and tearing.

One study showed that Triphala has anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis.

Another study found that Triphala was effective in reducing symptoms of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, including itching and redness.

Triphala Eye Wash in Red eyes

Red eyes can be caused by various factors, including eye strain, allergies, and infections. One study found that Triphala has anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms of red eyes. Another study showed that Triphala improved tear secretion and reduced symptoms of dry eye syndrome, which can cause redness and discomfort.

Are there any side effects of using Triphala eyewash?

Triphala eyewash is safe and causes no harmful side effects. It has been in practice for generations and no adverse effects surfaced. However, a few precautions are necessary to practice this eye care routine.

  • Avoid using Triphala eyewash in case of any injury to the eyes or the area near it.
  • It is common to sense a mild burning sensation. But if the burning sensation gets severe stop the process immediately.
  • Consult an Ayurvedic doctor for better advice.

You can use this natural eye care tool once daily. Feel the difference in your vision and relaxation in your eyesight after a few days. Try Triphala eyewash and Bates method of exercises at home and share with us your experience of the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Triphala eyewash, and how does it benefit our eyes?

Triphala eyewash is a traditional Ayurvedic remedy made from a combination of three fruits: Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica). It is used to cleanse and soothe the eyes, reduce eye strain, and support overall eye health.

How does Triphala eyewash help in reducing eye strain?

Can Triphala eyewash improve vision or treat vision problems?

While Triphala eyewash can support eye health, it is not a cure for vision problems. However, by promoting eye health and reducing eye strain, it may indirectly help in maintaining better vision.

Is Triphala eyewash suitable for everyone?

Triphala eyewash is generally safe for most people. However, it’s essential to consult with an Ayurvedic doctor before using it, especially if you have any existing eye conditions or allergies.

How often should I use Triphala eyewash?

The frequency of using Triphala eyewash can vary. For general eye care and maintenance, using it once daily can be sufficient. However, during periods of eye strain or discomfort or inflammation, you may use it more frequently as needed.

Can Triphala eyewash help with dry eyes?

How do I prepare and use Triphala eyewash?

To prepare Triphala eyewash, soak one teaspoon of Triphala powder in a cup of distilled or boiled and cooled water overnight. In the morning, strain the liquid through a fine cloth or filter. Lean your head over a sink, tilt your eyes slightly upward, and use an eye cup or a clean dropper to pour the eyewash into each eye. Blink gently to distribute the solution.

Can Triphala eyewash be used for eye infections?

Triphala eyewash may offer some relief for mild eye infections due to its anti-inflammatory properties. However, it is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you suspect an eye infection, seek advice from an eye care professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.
