Cleopatra’s Beauty Secrets: Ancient Techniques for Timeless Beauty

Cleopatra was the eternal embodiment of charm and grace. Her hypnotizing beauty bewitched the great rulers. So, in this blog, I bring you Cleopatra’s beauty secrets that had an Ayurvedic connection.

A few days ago, one of my patients named Laxmi, brought up this intriguing question about Cleopatra’s beauty regimen. Is Cleopatra’s beauty regimen inspired by Ayurveda?

Indeed, it was! Ayurveda is the oldest stream of medicine discovered on this planet. Hence it influenced every other system that followed its trail. Today, every medical culture traces its roots back to Ayurveda.

My response intrigued her. She probed further about Cleopatra’s secret beauty regime and if it is effective today. Fortunately, the secrets of Cleopatra’s beauty have been well-documented. Her recipe for beauty was natural, its effectiveness was proven.

Cleopatra’s Beauty Secrets – All natural!

Cleopatra bathed in a tub of milk and honey. She dipped her skin in essential oil and rose petals. These natural ingredients exfoliated her skin. It also moisturized her body, making her skin soft and supple.

1. Cleopatra’s age-defying face mask

Who would not want to know the secret to stop their aging cycle?

People are spending thousands of rupees on anti-aging creams and treatments. But that’s not the only way to get ageless skin. Cleopatra’s anti-aging regime consisted of a natural white clay mask.

This simple natural mask has astounding tightening and toning effects on the skin.  Use it on a regular basis to witness a reduction of wrinkles and fine lines.

However, it is very important to note that the white clay should not be kept for more than 5 to 10 minutes. The prolonged application might have drying effects on the skin.

2. Cleopatra’s Moisturizing face mask

One thing that the skin craves is ample moisturization. It is like food to the skin. Cleopatra never compromised on her moisturizing regime. She relied on a mixture of cream and honey that kept her skin hydrated and free of dead skin cells.

Ahe substituted the cream with raw milk and fuller’s earth for a deep moisturizing mask.

Her moisturizing mask consisted of 2 portions of heavy cream and one portion of honey. Apply this mask to the face for about 10 minutes and then wash gently with warm water. It is a simple way to make the skin look supple and flawless.

3. Cleopatra’s Moisturizing and toning tools

No beauty regime can be complete without the elixir of youth, Aloe vera. Cleopatra used Aloe vera gel regularly to moisturize their skin.   The epitome of beauty trusted natural rosewater for toning her skin.  Rosewater is an excellent natural skin toner.

She would blend Aloe vera gel and honey and prepare a deep moisturizing face mask. After the mask, she dapped her skin with a cotton swab soaked in rosewater to tone her skin.  Another ingredient that the beauty relied on was apple cider vinegar.

4. Cleopatra’s secret of lustrous Hair

Her long locks could captivate any spectator by the heart. She used henna, Juniper berries, and some other medicated herbs to give her hair a shiny color and make them smooth and silky.  She also used the same mixture to paint her nails reddish brown. Cleopatra also used honey and castor oil on her hair for their nourishing and strengthening properties.

The benefits of Henna, honey, and castor oil are well-documented in Ayurveda. It is revered to reduce hair fall and promote hair growth.  It also soothes the scalp and nourishes the hair shaft and follicle.

Those who have witnessed her beauty said that it was her eyes, deep and captivating, her gaze pierced straight into the onlooker’s heart. Ayurvedic doctor’s  opinion

Cleopatra was a queen of ancient Egypt who lived over 2,000 years ago, and much of what is known about her beauty regimen comes from historical accounts and legends rather than scientific studies. However, based on various historical records and accounts, it is believed that Cleopatra relied on a number of beauty treatments and rituals to maintain her famous looks, including:

  1. Skin Care: Cleopatra was known to use milk and honey to cleanse and hydrate her skin. She is said to have taken baths in milk to help soften and soothe her skin.
  2. Hair Care: Cleopatra is said to have used henna to color her hair and scented oils to keep it soft and shiny. She is also said to have used a blend of frankincense and myrrh to keep her hair fragrant.
  3. Makeup: Cleopatra was known for her love of makeup and used kohl to line her eyes, enhance her lashes, and create a bold look. She also used various pigments to create her signature look.
  4. Exercise: Cleopatra was said to have been an avid swimmer, and it’s believed that she used physical activity to stay in shape and maintain her beauty.
  5. Diet: Cleopatra is said to have followed a healthy diet that was rich in fruits and vegetables. She is also said to have drank honey mixed with vinegar to help maintain her youthfulness.

Note that these are just legends and historical accounts, and there is no scientific evidence to support them. Nevertheless, they offer a glimpse into the beauty treatments and rituals that were popular in ancient Egypt.

So, these were some of the treasure troves found in the pages of Cleopatra’s beauty secrets. Hope you enjoyed reading this. Do write back to me sharing your thoughts on this blog!
