The Surprising Benefits of Curd Wash in Hair Care

Something fascinating about the old times when people lived close to Mother Earth was that all human needs were fulfilled by nature. Their simplistic solutions were so compelling that people keep rolling back in time, even today. So, in this blog, I bring you one such amazing hack from history—curd wash in Hair care.

Curd wash is an age-old formula for hair care that has been in practice for several thousand years. The Sardars widely used it to maintain their locks.

Managing your hair without going for trimming and cutting is a difficult task, and the secret of our desi sardars, who have been doing this for generations, lies in the simple curd wash.

Curd Wash in Hair Care – The science

Blessed with antibacterial properties, curd is an excellent ingredient for combating dandruff and scalp infections, soothing itchiness, and correcting several other problems related to hair and scalp. Its antifungal and anti-fizz properties make it perfect for conditioning and nourishing.

Curd is one of the best natural hair conditioners for improving the quality of hair and preventing hair loss. Enriched with Vitamins B5 and D, curd nourishes our tresses deep from the roots, and the fatty acids moisturize the strands, making them healthy.

It further unclogs the follicles, improves scalp health and helps maintain the scalp’s correct PH balance by regulating sebum production.

Its cooling effect helps soothe an aggravated or irritated scalp. Whether it’s dry, lifeless tresses, broken hair entangled in the hairbrush, or damaged hair with split ends and dandruff, wash it all with the power of curd.

The procedure of using curd wash

The application of this natural remedy is very simple and easy.

  1. Take pure curd in a bowl, use a blender or stir well with a spoon to avoid lumps.
  2. Once the fine paste is ready, apply it evenly to the scalp and strands. It will nourish the scalp and moisturize your strands while clearing all hair woes.
  3. Leave it for 20 to 30 minutes to dry completely. You may also cover it with a bathing cap.
  4. Rinse it well with normal water.

How to combat the smell of curd from your hair

Despite curd’s many benefits, many shed their hands off curd for its strong, pungent smell. Of course, no one likes to be called “curd head”. So here are some quick tips to help you enjoy a rejuvenating curd wash without worrying about the bad smell. You may use any of the following handy hacks after washing off the curd:

  1. Orange juice is one of the best remedies for removing the stubborn curd smell. Its pleasant aroma suppresses the pungent odour of curd. Apply fresh orange juice to your hair for 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Fresh Lemon Juice: Fresh lemon juice cleanses your hair and scalp while leaving a soft, lemony fragrance on your mane. Mix lemon and water and spray it on your hair and scalp. After a couple of minutes, wash it with normal water.
  3. Baking Soda: Baking soda releases the oiliness of the scalp and hair and combats the strong smell of curd. Make a paste of baking soda and water in a 1:3 ratio. Apply it on the wet hair for about 5 minutes and wash it off with normal water,
