Mindful Eating with Osho’s Techniques: A Comprehensive Guide

Food is divine and eating right is an art! Just like breathing, eating is also essential to our existence. But even in these simple basics, many people go wrong!!!

Osho the charismatic and gifted speaker, the leader of world spiritual movement and a propeller of healthy eating and rightful living shared some deep and helpful insights on eating right.

So, many patients come to my clinic and say, “Doctor, I eat only home-cooked food, less oily, less spicy, yet I suffer from indigestion so often. What’s wrong with my system?” It is the reality for so many people who eat the right food in the wrong way and suffer the wrath of indigestion and related disorders.

Osho says ‘Annam Brahma’- food is divine and eating well is an art. It’s more than stuffing food into the stomach. It is to arouse all the sense organs to see, taste, smell, touch and chew the food, to digest the food.

The act of eating should be treated with such deep respect that while eating you forget everything. It is an existential prayer for nourishment and energy, for health and healing. Neither stuffing nor starving is right. A real lover of food eats only to the point where the body feels perfectly satiated and tranquil.

Osho illuminates the art to understand the language of the body, to understand the language of the stomach. It has a language of its own, you just need to understand that language. Give only what is demanded by the stomach not what is desired by the tongue!

5 tips on eating by Osho

  1. Eating what is healthy and needed by the body is the only way of eating.
  2. Food is best eaten in its raw form. Raw food gets totally absorbed in the body and give all the necessary nutrients needed.
  3. Natural foods like fruits, nuts, vegetables should make up the diet of a person. A person cannot eat more of these things than needed as it gives complete satisfaction and saturation.
  4. Avoid eating non-vegetarian food which is against the nature of man.
  5. Any food which makes man unconsciousness, excited, extreme, or disturbed is harmful.

Osho says how to eat

The right way of eating is as important as eating right. It should be like chanting of a prayer, slow, steady, focused and in a rhythm.

5 tips on how to eat –

  1. Eat with full awareness and eat meditatively. Only then, you will never eat more and you will never eat less.
  2. The state of our mind when we eat is much more important than what we eat.
  3. Eat joyously and happily. Drop your worries and sadness before sitting at the table. Eating food in a worried and hurried state can make even the best food act as a poison.
  4. Another unhealthy habit is eating food in anger.
  5. Eating in a blissful state with a feeling of gratitude and thankfulness is the true sense of eating right.

Mindful eating by Osho – Simple tips

  1. Never discuss negative things while eating. It snatches the peace away.
  2. Eat-in a seated position. Eating in a hurry with the plate is hand is as good as eating waste!
  3. Avoid distractions like TV or mobile, while eating.
  4. The tongue is only a watchman, don’t let it behave like a master.
  5. Chew each grain properly before you swallow.

In this modern-day, so many people live in stress and worries, disconnected from their own mind and body. It is through food that they could find their route back to the soul. A few minutes of peaceful, meditative silence while eating can make a world of difference to the body!

Wow Lovely message… infact my grandfather use to say ” Partaking food is not mere satiating hunger, it is in fact a yagna. The food is Brahma incarnate that gives life its living force. With this suddenly the entire paradigm and perspective changes!!

The perspective of the food you eat being the Brahman is not only spiritually logical but it in someway shows a way to detach yourself from the yearning for or lusting for food which hurts the body anyways…

Food is Brahma. It should be taken by arpanam bhava. Very well article.

Yes, Osho was a great saint in a very fascinating way. He was a multi faceted personality. He preached and nourished the human behaviour, character building and spiritual world. He was the messaiah for the mankind.

The way you quoted his sayings are enchanting. As Dr. Ramesh Singh Chauhan, the world famous Oncologist says “we have to greatful to every grain of the food. It nourishes our body by scarifying it’s own life”.

As you rightly put “It is an existential prayer for nourishment and energy, for health and healing.”

It is an useful article for every human being. Thank you so much.

Another useful tip is, First one minute, look at your plate before you begin eating. Think about what foods are on your plate and in what amounts. Try this sir.

Thanks doctor sir. You always advised us that food, lifestyle and medication (greatly meditation also) all have to be in good proportion. I had only heard about Osho and YOU brought the knowledge to me in an easy understandable way. I shall continue to follow your advise about food and walking. Thanks again, take care

To one group Osho was a master storyteller, pithily translating philosophical, and spiritual concepts and human psychology to lay audience. For other groups, he was a faux intellectual born ahead of time, dressing up ordinary truths as a counterintuitive genius. His hypnotic talks followed the anecdote-heavy methodology. He was the master who spoke and wrote about many things under the sun. He became subject of curiosity and controversy in those days. thank you ranju

Excellent article! Eating is a prayer offered to our soul and body. Ayurveda emphasises on bhojana and Anna.

Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just
sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any recommendations for newbie blog writers?
I’d certainly appreciate it.

Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the web the simplest
thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed while people think about worries
that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the
nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing
without having side effect , people could take a signal.
Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
