Diabetes is a global epidemic and India is the world capital of diabetes with over 11% of the total Indian population suffering from this chronic disorder. A genetic disorder, today, diabetes is more of a lifestyle disorder, caused by obesity, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy lifestyle, and poor dietary choices. In this blog, I will be taking you through scientific researches on the efficacy of neem tea in diabetes patients.

Diabetes is a chronic lifestyle disorder that brings along a cluster of complex complications. If not managed well, diabetes could lead to cardiovascular diseases, impaired vision, amputations, nerve damages, kidney damages, and other issues. Often late diagnosis, ignorance, and lack of awareness result in difficulty in managing this disorder. Diabetics need to be very cautious when it comes to their diet. Neem tea is easy and simple to make. Here is a recipe to follow –

  • Boil a cup of water in a pan.
  • Now, add a few leaves of either fresh neem leaves or dried neem powder.
  • Next, add a few tea leaves.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon to your tea for added benefits.
  • Let it boil for about 10 minutes, strain and drink.

When is the best time to drink neem tea?

According to Ayurveda, it is best to drink neem tea early in the morning or before meals. Drink it once or twice a day for effective control of diabetes. It also aids in weight loss; obesity is one of the main causative factors of diabetes.

Caution!

Neem leaves are edible and it shows no toxicity. However, in rare cases of overconsumption, it may cause blood sugar levels to go low. Hence, doctors advise patients to monitor their blood glucose levels while consuming neem.

Neem leaves show potential properties that can help in the management of diabetes. Neem tea can be added to the diet as a preventive measure against type 2 diabetes. However, further research is needed to prove the effectiveness of Neem tea as an anti-diabetic remedy!
