Irregular Periods: Take Control of Your Menstrual Cycle

The irregular Period is a constant battle. Many women have to deal with this every month. So, in this blog, I bring you 10 amazing tips on managing Irregular Periods.

Irregular periods are more of an emotional war than a physical one! And one can win this battle with positivity. It takes more than capsules and medicines. Pills and bills. Mechanical tools to beat the trauma of irregular mensuration.

The tussle of uncertain dates. The turbulence of irregular periods. Struggle with uncertain plans. Everything creates a pressure hard to overcome.

Irregular periods – The Ugly Truth

Every month girls wrestle the pain and the cramp. The uneasiness and fatigue. But honestly, it’s a blessing if the list is limited to this.

Because there are so many girls, young and adult, who succumb to the hormonal tides of their periods. From gaining weight to losing confidence. Headaches and insomnia. Panic attacks and acne…

The list gets darker and shadier.

The ugly truth is that even today millions of young girls drop out of school because of their periods.

Adults are fighting fatal diseases because of their poorly managed menstruation.

But the shocking fact is that this is not only a problem for the poor and downtrodden! Even the educated and rich are not barred.

Case study – Irregular periods and Infertility

Recently, a 42-year-old woman named Ananya, an alumnus of a reputed engineering college, visited my clinic.

She opened up to me about her long tiring battle with hormonal issues since menarche.

From the very beginning, her dates ditched the calendar. She got her periods only after popping pills for 5 days every month.

Concerned by the irregularity, she visited many top gynecologists. But each one of them gave a synonymous verdict!

There is no cure to this! You have to be cautious.

For 7 years, she consulted over 30 gynecologists. Followed women’s health magazines. Fanatically searched for a solution to her period problems

Impairment of irregular periods

The continuous dumping of synthetic pills. Unaddressed issues at the root. The strain of Stress. These worsened her condition bit by bit!

She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Doctors recommended her pricey medicines. But that swayed her weight to the right!

Gradually, the complications went adding on.

She developed allergic rhinitis, migraine, urticaria, insomnia, and panic attacks.

Bright light and darkness within

13 years ago, she married her colleague. He is an IIT alumnus, a cool and exceptionally humane man.

This is the only good thing that happened to her in decades!

But little did she know her happiness was oozing in the shadow of grief. After a few months of her marriage, she discovered her issues of infertility.

Her whole life she endured the torture and travail of her periods. She did it all with grace hoping to embrace the power to bore a child.

But then the ugly fate crawled up with a heinous smile once again taking away her only hope.

She was devastated.

Her spirit died, her heart broke and life became scattered in pieces!

As if the curse of her menses was not enough. The cuss of a barren womb sprinkled salt on her wounds.

After fighting the fate ceaselessly, they decided to put their weapons down against the battle of fertility.

Her husband stood by her like a rock and consoled her to focus on her health.

He brought her to my clinic for an Ayurvedic consultation on holistic health.

So, here are the tips on managing Irregular Periods that I shared with her!

Tips on managing Irregular Periods

Deep within her bruised soul, she was nurturing the seeds of anger and frustration. She hated the Gods and her fate. But most of all she loathed the doctor’s fraternity.

In a quivering voice, she said, “I was the most beautiful girl in my college. But now I don’t even dare to look at the mirror.

I don’t use any cosmetics. Cannot wear a saree. My body is swelling from every side. This is giving me sleepless nights.

There is no meaning to my life. It’s only for my husband that I am breathing on this heartless planet.

She narrated her plight with every disease. And at the end of each sentence, her pain burst out in the form of tears.

His husband quoted, “Sir we have tried everything. And at last, we searched for an Ayurvedic doctor to get the best natural treatment.”

Her treatment was focused on bringing her out of her hopeless mental state. She was not treated for fertility as there were other important things to correct.

Here is what I shared with the young couple as an Ayurvedic doctor.

Tips on managing Irregular Periods

1. Positivity to go past irregular periods

I tried to console her. Urged her to shift her focus to all the positive things in her life! Told her about the miracles of gratitude and the fulfillment in prayers!

I helped her nurture a habit of positivity. Your state of mind is nothing but your perception of happiness and grief. A problem for one is an opportunity for another!

2. Acceptance is assuring

The first step to managing irregular periods begins with accepting the chronic illness. It is an inconvenience and nothing more. I illustrated to her the importance of emotional acceptance.

The mantra to beat such a chronic ailment is to live life one day at a time. The future is anyway uncertain. So there is no point stressing over things that can’t be controlled. Moreover, stress and negativity would just add to her plight!

3. Don’t be too harsh on yourself

The final and most important point was to stop being a self-critic. Society is anyway going to do that. So, the least one can do is to be strong and face the good, bad, and ugly days with the same grace. Don’t let the turmoil of the outside affect the inner peace.

4. Breathe in and Breathe out

Along with the mental boost, I taught her a few breathing techniques. This would help her handle panic attacks and maintain her calmness.

5. Ayurvedic medicines for natural healing

I also prescribed a few Ayurvedic medicines that were completely safe and natural. The herbal medicines were given as an aid against her anxiety and panic.

She followed my advice religiously. Started noting her positive and negative thoughts during the day. Focused on her inner self, accepting her body, started pampering her skin. Within a few months, the transformation was remarkable!

A Remarkable recovery

She is sleeping well and has not reported an allergy or migraine.  Though, she is still on a break from her career. Focusing on spending her time cooking healthy food, yoga sessions, walking, and gyms. She became extremely health-conscious once she realized that change was possible.

Now, every three months he takes off for a week and the happy couple goes abroad for a thrilling exploration. Life is bright and fun and the couple is happy like none!
