Health Benefits of Chanting Vishnu Sahasra Nama

‘Vishnu Sahasra Nama ’ is a Sanskrit hymn that contains a list of 1000  names of Vishnu, written by the scholar Sage Vyasa who has written epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagwat Gita.  Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of mantras in the healing of diseases, restoring mental balance, and creating a positive effect. From the Vedic period, our ancestors have relied on the healing power of Mantras.

In India, Mantras play a very significant role in our lives right from birth to the last breath. It begins with ‘Jaatakarma’, reciting mantras in a newborn’s right ear, requesting the Gods to protect the baby. Charaka mentions the recitation of ‘Vishnu Sahasra Nama’ in the treatment of Jwara (fever). In fact, ‘Vishnu Sahasra Nama’ is the only spiritual hymn mentioned in Ayurveda. Other than Vishnu Sahasra Nama no other mantras, shlokas, stotras of spiritual importance are mentioned in the Ayurvedic texts.

Research on the efficacy of Mantras

Mantras are Sanskrit words loaded with power and sound that penetrate the deep levels of consciousness. The unique sounds and vibrations have a deep impact on our thought, action, environment, and the universe. Reciting this mantra promotes positive thinking and makes one more optimistic about any situation.

Each recitation brings about a positive change in one’s consciousness and restores peace of mind. It promotes self-realization and brings an awareness that restores peace of mind.

Proven Benefits of Prayers

The psycho-somatic benefits of prayers include combating stress, controlling anger, treating depression, managing blood pressure, fastening healing, boosting immunity, and alleviating anxiety and panic

Proven Benefits of Mantras

Recent research on the efficacy of mantras has revealed that chanting mantras attune the body, mind, and breath. When you chant a mantra, sound energy is generated and the vibrations of that energy awaken the chakras along the spinal column. These vibrations get diffused into the physical nervous system and the 72,000 naadis (bundles of tubular vessels) that are a part of the psychic nervous system.

The phonetics of these Mantras stimulates multiple reflex points and awaken the dormant parts of the brain. Shlokas like ‘Vishnu Sahasra Nama’ enhance the circulation and flow of energy throughout the body. Chanting a thousand names of Shri Hari Vishnu frees one from fear and brings goodness, bliss, and peace.
